Go Gardening Show - Season 5 - Episode 4

This month the Go Gardening team visited one of those "hidden gem gardens" and had the opportunity to speak with some soil research experts to help everyone learn how important soil health is to your landscapes. First stop...San Antonio Zoo.

San Antonio Zoo has a whole team of horticultural experts that not only create colorful native plant beds to beautify the zoo, but they also design and maintain the plants and tress inside animal exhibits. This segment is not only visually stunning but quite informative on how humans interact with some exotic animals and the ecosystems created at the zoo to keep them healthy and happy. And there is a bonus! The zoo is home to a 500-year-old oak tree that we got a chance to ask some questions about.

Next stop is the Edwards Aquifer Authority's Field Research Park. There we had the opportunity to speak with two very knowledgeable environmental scientists about the work they are doing to learn more about soil health and its impact on landscapes. The bottom line there is how we all can improve our landscapes to help conserve water and protect the Edwards and Trinity Aquifers that two million people rely on each day.
Go Gardening's mission is to help people conserve water in the Edwards and Trinity Aquifers by teaching homeowners how to convert turfgrass areas to low-to-no water use landscapes featuring native plants.
