Go Gardening Show - Season 5 - Episode 2

Welcome to March and the start of gardening season. One important topic that doesn't get enough discussion in the gardening world is how we all should know about and manage invasive plant and animal species. They are called "invasives" because they can cause harm to your landscape and the overall ecosystem we live in. So Go Gardening sat down with Ashley Morgan-Olvera with the Texas Invasive Species Institute to learn how aggressively managing invasive species in our own backyards can help your neighborhood and adjacent neighborhoods as well. Get ready for an interesting, in-depth learning experience in this Go Gardening interview.

Next, the Go Gardening crew found an interesting community garden that was being managed by Zen Natives owner Sandy Arias Longoria. There are lots of ideas that Sandy has incorporated into this garden that you will be able to use in your own landscape. Don't forget, this is the time for planning how you can reduce your water-thirsty turfgrass and replace it with drought resistant native plants. Not only can you beautify your landscape, but you'll reduce your water use down to almost nothing. And...even our own host, Mark Peterson, was astounded at one fact Sandy shared with us. You'll definitely have to watch to find out that big reveal.
Go Gardening's mission is to help people conserve water in the Edwards and Trinity Aquifers by teaching homeowners how to convert turfgrass areas to low-to-no water use landscapes featuring native plants.
