Gardening Essentials Class March 2024

March's Presentations - Charles M. Allen will give both (2) presentations.

Session One - Foraging edible native plants

This is a hands on (actually mouth on and nose on) presentation with fresh and dried samples of edible and useful plants.  A brief overview of each plant is presented and then participants are encouraged to graze on the salad plants.  Freshly brewed teas from an assortment of dried plants will be prepared for sipping.  Jars of dried leaves of red bay, mountain mint, and other spices will be available for all to smell.

Session Two - From blade to summer home: Building a switchgrass house with a Caddo elder

Charles M. Allen will share how he learned to build a summer shelter from native switchgrass under the instruction of Caddo elder and historian Phil Cross in 2006.  Presentation will show details of construction from start to completion.

We appreciate you and look forward to a great author series in 2024.
